Crackling sound in IBM Thinkpad T40 Laptop

Hi,

This problem is common in Apple Notebooks. Rare in IBM notebooks. To be really honest with you, there might be million of reasons and to be frank you would agree.

This usually occur when the notebook is idle.

Note :- I AM TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THAT THE UNIT IS NOT STATIC. IN CASE, IF THE BELOW MENTIONED POINTS WOULD NOT WORK, MORE LIKELY YOU NEED TO GET THE NOTEBOOK REPLACED/REPAIRED AT SERVICE CENTER.

Check Points :-

1. Use a microphone. Keep the notebook idle. Check if you are getting that noise. If yes, check some other points unless, more likely it's the nature of the speakers you have.

2. Make sure you have the updated Drivers.

3. Sometimes, this noise might be when you try to access Wi-Fi.

In this case, Try the below steps to REDUCE the noise :-

1 - Go to Control Panel -> Device Manager
\015\0122 - Click on Networks Adapters
\015\0123 - Double click on the wireless card
\015\0124 - Go to the advanced tab.
\015\0125 - Select from the list "Disable Bands"
\015\0126 - Select the a band from the list on the right side.

This problem usually happens with Intel wireless card.

4. Check power supply unit. Check whether you receive this sound while charging the notebook or it's common.

Check and get back to me, if problem remains the same !!!!
